An Orthodox Jew tries his best to keep God’s commands – the mitzvot. According to Judaism the more mitzvot that I perform and the more Torah that I learn helps me become a better person. In addition it improves me in a way that makes me a better example of how a good and moral person should live. Therefore I can be a better friend, relative and “citizen of the world”.
It is a little like throwing a pebble into a pond and watching the ripples spread out throughout the whole pond. My actions help turn me into a better person, and my being a better person will have an effect on those around me as I will be kinder, gentler and more thoughtful. What this means is that my keeping the mitzvot is giving me the tools to improve not only myself, but also to help me to relate to people and treat them in a better way than I did prior to that.
