Mystical Experiences

Question:

Please tell me the Jewish Religion's stance regarding mystical experiences. I was not seeking a mystical experience and an intense one happened to me.

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

I think that you are extraordinarily lucky. I do not know of many people who have the ability to say that they had such an intense experience. Judaism would explain that the correct approach now is to try and use the experience for your benefit. According to Jewish Tradition from the destruction of the Holy Temple a constant, overt connection with God is not something that we can really aspire to on a continual basis. That means that we must use less obvious methods of connecting to God and through those other ways we can build up and nurture the relationship to the point where it becomes completely real.
