Shalom Aleichem

Question:

Why is the greeting of Shalom Aleichem said in the plural even when one is only greeting an individual?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

Even though one can say "Shalom Aleicha", nevertheless, it is considered to be more respectful to address someone in the third person.
