Gateways Retreats

Question:

Hi Rabbi, thank you for answering my previous question. I have more questions and someone mentioned to me that I might benefit from attending a "Gateways Retreat". Could you tell me more about what it is and what happens there? Thanks!

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

The Classic Weekend Retreat, Gateways’ flagship program, allows singles and families to experience together a spiritually uplifting, intellectually stimulating, fun Shabbat. Held in hotels and resorts across the United States, the weekend is replete with activities and study sessions geared to adults, teens and children.

Adults can explore the foundations of Jewish philosophy or examine Judaism’s insights into life, relationships, world history and the soul in any one of over 35 classes and workshops.

Youngsters can engage in their own weekend of discovery. The children’s program brings Judaism to life, as children are introduced to Shabbat, the Festivals and Israel through art, music, drama and sport. Babysitting is provided for infants.

A riveting teen program for 13-16-year-olds enables teens to address the pertinent issues facing them.

There is ample time for all ages to make new friends over the delicious Sabbath meals, at breaks in the 24-hour tearoom, during study sessions and activities, or at the Saturday night gala bash.

There are two Classic Gateways Retreats:

The Essentials Retreat -for participants with minimal Jewish education

The Advanced Retreat - for alumni who wish to expand their understanding and appreciation of Jewish philosophy, law and history.

The Classic Gateways Weekend Retreat experience does not end when everyone goes home. Gateways’ post-retreat educational and social programs help participants stay connected and engaged. By creating new social and educational networks, and tapping into existing ones in cities across America , participants continue to grow and develop in a supportive environment with like-minded alumni.

"Gateways2Go," Classic Gateways Continuing Education program offers innovative home/office study programs, in which participants invite friends and colleagues to hear one of Gateways’ top-flight educators. Gateways also coordinates ongoing individual learning sessions in person or by phone. For Shabbat, Gateways matches alumni with families in communities across America.
