You can use the electric lights in your room. When your wife is ready to light candles all the electrical lights which will be used on Friday night should be shut off. The lights which are going to be used on Shabbat should then be turned on, with the intention that they are being turned on for the sake of the mitzvah of Shabbat candles. There is a disagreement among the authorities as to whether a Bracha is recited or not - Rav Aharon Kotler ruled that a Bracha should be recited and Rav Moshe Feinstein ruled that a Bracha should not be recited. Rav Ovadia Yosef rules that a Bracha should be recited.
