Musical Instruments on Shabbat

Is playing musical instruments on Shabbat permitted?

Someone told me it’s prohibited because one may tune the instrument. Is this true? Many instruments cannot be self-tuned.

The playing of musical instruments on Shabbat is a Rabbinical prohibition because there is a concern that the instrument might break and one might fix it on Shabbat (not because of tuning it). This action would violate the Torah prohibition of not making or fixing a vessel on Shabbat. The prohibition is codfied in the Code of Jewish Law, Orach Chaim 338:1.
