Holiday Zemirot

Question:

Dear Rabbi, this past holiday my host said we don't sing zemirot (songs) at the holiday meals. But I remember spending holidays with other hosts who did sing! What's the right thing to do?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

The regular Zemirot that are sung on Shabbat are not sung. However, there are special songs that are sung in honor of the Festivals, such as songs from the holiday's prayers. In all the homes that I have ever visited for a Festival meal (including my own!) that is what we do - we sing the songs that are related to the Festival.
