What is the Jewish position on the inherent dignity and worth of the individual? Thank you

Judaism teaches that each person is created in the Image of God. That means, by definition, that each person was placed in this world because God needs him here for some purpose. Therefore, each person has self-worth and inherent dignity and we should consequently relate to others with respect and in a dignified manner that reflects this loftiness.
