Yeshiva

Question:

Do Jews have monasteries or some equivalent?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

Yes, in a certain way. There is an institution called a Yeshivah where both single and married men learn Torah all day. They dedicate a significant period of time to delving the depths of the Torah - some people might dedicate a year or two to full-time study whilst others dedicate far, far more than that. However, as opposed to a monastery, in Yeshivahs people get married during their studies and raise families.
