Haredi

Question:

What does Haredi mean?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

The word Chared in Hebrew means fear. It has been used in conjunction with those who fear the Heavens for centuries and it is commonly used today for the Orthodox communities that place much emphasis on Torah studies. A (very generalized) rule of thumb is that men who dress in black and white clothing are normally associated with the Charedi (Haredi) community.
