Global Warming

Question:
What is the Torah's view on global warming?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

I am not a scientist and hence do not have the expertise to answer a scientific question with any authority. I am following the debate in science, and I believe that there is merit in those who argue that it is increasing due to our production of gases, greeenhouse effect, and the depletion of the ozone layer. Certainly I believe that as Jews we are obligated to be environmentally responsible. We are prohibited from engaging in destructive behavior, wasteful behavior and are obligated to care for the world. Ultimately I am not worried about our "extinction" because this is clearly in the Hands of God, however, this does not exempt us from trying to act responsibly.
