Becoming a Better Person

Question:

Does being an orthodox Jew make you be a better person?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

An Orthodox Jew tries his best to keep God’s commands – the mitzvot. According to the Rabbis the more mitzvot that I perform and the more Torah that I learn, the greater my ability to influence others. It is a little like throwing a pebble into a pond and watching the ripples spread out throughout the whole pond. My actions are supposed to turn me into a better person - my being a better person will have an effect on those around me as I will be kinder, gentler and more thoughtful. What this means is that my keeping the mitzvot is giving me the tools to learn how to relate to people and treat them in a better way than I did prior to that.
