Song - David Melech Yisrael

Question:

The words of the popular song, David Melech Yisrael Chai VeKayam (David King of Israel is alive and exists) don’t make sense to me. He’s been dead for thousands of years!

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

King David the person is long dead. His death is recorded in Tanach and he died before his son, King Solomon, built the First Temple. However, King David the concept, King David the forefather of the Messiah and the Messianic Era is alive and well and something that all Jews should be wishing and praying for.
