Animal Souls?

Question:

According to Jewish law do animals and other creatures have a soul or only human beings?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

Judaism believes that only humans possess a soul. That is the reason we are obligated to obey the laws of mourning only for humans who died, and not for pets or other beloved animals. However, having said that, nothing that God created is devoid of spirituality and everything has a "spark" of the Divine, including animals.
