Is My Name Important?

Question:

Are names important in Judaism? If somebody names their child something such as "warrior", does that have any effect?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

Names are very significant in Judaism and their meanings have many esoteric dimensions to them. However, having said that, a certain name that has no obvious bearing on the characteristics of the person carrying the name. That means that a person named after a great warrior will not necessarily be a warrior and a person named after a great scholar will not necessarily be a brilliant person.
