Reason to Delay Wedding?

Question:

My friend's son is supposed to get married in two weeks. It is to be an elaborate affair. The brother of the groom just became seriously ill and is in the ICU. My question is, should the wedding go on as scheduled? Thanks

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

What a terrible situation to be in - my heart goes out to the bride and groom and to the entire family and I hope and pray that the groom's brother will have a complete and speedy recovery.

The accepted approach in Judaism is not to delay the wedding when it is so near. However difficult it will be for the groom and his family it is recommended that the wedding go ahead as planned rather than postponing it for an indefinite period of time.
