Forty Years Old

Question:

What importance does the age of forty have in Judaism? Does it have any connection to studying Kaballah?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

The Mishna teaches that the age of forty heralds in wisdom. That a forty year old has access to a different kind of wisdom that he had until then. That is why many people say that the Zohar and the Kaballah should not be learnt before then. Interestingly enough, many authorities are of the opinion that the Zohar should not be learnt until a person has studied for Torah for forty years.
